Production Techniques

Textured Specialty and Printing

When printing digitally on textured stock, the depressed areas of the surface may not adhere to the print.  This is due to the toner being applied to the surface and then passing through heated rollers. This can sometimes be the desired effect. We recommend a sample print on textured surfaces to ensure it meets your approval.

Letterpress Printing

Letterpress printing is an age old  technique of relief printing using a printing press. A process by which many copies are produced by repeated direct impression of an inked, raised surface against sheets or a continuous roll of paper - the finished item has the text sunken in to the card. Impressions are best made on a thick cotton board

Foil Stamping

Foil stamping is the application of metallic or pigmented foil on to a solid surface by application of a heated die onto foil, making it permanently adhere to the surface below leaving the design of the die. Foils can be metallic or matte and are available in a high range of colours and effects. Gold and Silver being the most popular.

Offset Printing

Offset printing is a commonly used printing technique in which the inked image is transferred (or "offset") from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface.
This technique enables you to print in exact colours (Pantone) but is suited to printing 250 or more items.

Embossing and Debossing

Embossing is created by stamping a design on (a surface or object) so that it stands out in relief.  Debossing is created in a similar fashion except the indent is pushed forward and stands up from the page (the reverse of embossed imagery).

Screen Printing

Screen printing, also known as serigraphy, is a method of creating an image on paper, fabric or some other object by pressing ink through a screen with areas blocked off by a stencil. Screen print uses acrylic paints and is suited to the application of one colour. Metallic finishes are also achievable.

Thermography (Raised) Printing

Raised print achieves the effect of text or images lifting up from the surface of the paper or card. A plastic resin is applied to the printed area and then heated to 'bake and raise' the print. Raised print has a gloss sheen finish and can be applied to any colour including metallics.

Wax Seal

Melted wax is applied to paper or card and then pressed with a brass die. Any design can be cut in to the brass head and used many times for years. Suitable for sealing letters or invitations or adding an authentication to an award or certificate.

Die Cut

Custom shaped paper or card is achieved through die cutting. A master template is made and used to cut the item to the exact requirement. Suited to invitations that want to add a unique finish - from rounded corners to complex shapes.

Laser Cutting and Etching

Different to die cutting (shapes) laser cutting can achieve a very intricate finish. Exact cuts are made as a laser  burns the desired cuts following an electronic template. The cuts are intricate enough to produce a lacework finish to paper, card or wood.
